      Holosun’s 2023 Shot Show Reveals

Right on the tail, or tails I suppose, of Holosun’s recent EPS line, Holosun has introduced a pretty expansive new lineup for the 2023 year. I’ll get into that in a moment. Now, the reason I referred to the EPS release as recent is because even though Holosun’s EPS announcement was almost a full year ago, they hardly started shipping units out until fairly recently. In fact, I would hardly call the EPS release as even in full-swing. Ibex still has plenty of EPS on order from the day they were announced, and we have plenty still to show up. This is a pretty big consideration for me, as today I’ve already put in the preorders for Holosun’s new announcements, and I am curious what the timeline will look like. Additionally, I am eager to see how the QC will be, as in the thousands of optics that I’ve hand packed, I had something like a .05% rate of factory defect. I have had more issues with the EPS alone than in all of my 407, 507, 509, etc. sales. A ton? No. More though. Now, I will admit, my contacts within Holosun have done a great job of taking care of my customers who have had issues. This of course is in great part to me backing up my customers’ satisfaction long after their proverbial checks have cleared. Every customer who needed to RMA an EPS got it done with personal attention from Ibex. Anyway, without further adieu, let’s briefly (I’m rarely brief) discuss the new offerings, or most of them, and what I think.

Please, leave a comment below with what you think. A, I want this forum aspect of the business to grow because I like to write, review, and engage. B, because it allows me to hear from more users than just myself, and that’s invaluable.

My bias: I really like the Competition Reticle. People haven’t all loved the MRS (many have of course), and for everyone else, I think the Comp reticle is “IT”.

DRS Night Vision: The DRS-NV (Digital Reflex Sight-Night Vision) is
a red dot and digital night vision fusion sight that
combines Holosun’s red dot sight technology with
digital night vision capability. DRS-NV features an
LED MRS (Multi-Reticle System) with two digital
reticle options, 1024×768 resolution digital night

We know Holosun makes a good red dot. I want to see how this foray into something new turns out. I have a feeling they are going to be the best “battle” night vision optics for the piece of market they’ll occupy. Nice size, and good for someone who doesn’t want ATN (anyone?), and isn’t ready maybe for something like the Echo3 from Sig, or stepping up to Trijicon land in thermal village. Now of course, Holosun has a thermal offering too, but it’s quite a step-up in price. I think the night vision concept in this small package will be fairly popular. The price is night vision priced, but it’s not 40k goggles. This is prime for larping.

      DRS Thermal:

      The DRS-TH (Digital Reflex Sight-Thermal) is a
red dot and thermal fusion sight that combines
Holosun’s red dot sight technology with thermal
imaging capability. DRS-TH features an LED MRS
(Multi-Reticle System) with two digital reticle
      options, 1024×768 resolution display at 50fps, 8x
digital zoom, digital image and video recording
with on-board storage, and is powered by an 18350
rechargeable battery. DRS-TH models feature five
thermal image modes including White Hot, Black
Hot, Highlight, Outline, and Fusion modes. DRSTH
is also available in a DRS-TH Pro version that
increases the thermal sensor resolution by 33%.

      TECH & FEATURES
      • Red Dot Sight w/ Fusion Thermal Overlay
      • 50FPS Overlay Refresh Rate
      • Digital Zoom Up To 8x

I’m more excited for this than the night vision. If you spend lots of time in Europe, it’s pretty clear that the future of optics there, especially for hunting, is in thermal technology. In a place like Germany, and others, this is touchier because German law views thermals as weapons of war. But, there is a growing movement for thermal scopage in lots of hunting applications. Night vision doesn’t necessarily belong in an optic to me, or does it? My jury of one is still out. It may be sick. But the thermal offering really catches my eye. Thermal is powerful stuff, and it has so many uses. In a small package like this, it may really break some impressive ground. The sensor resolution is more where I want to see in the Pro model, but I like to be demanding and buy more than I think I’ll need. Better to have more than need more. Even if this offering doesn’t blow socks off, I hope these two models make some loud knocking sounds on the doors of a place like Trijicon that could modernize better and blow socks, trust funds, and relationships for miles.

MY FINAL NOTE ON BOTH THE THERMAL AND THE NIGHT VISION. THESE ARE GOING TO BE FAIRLY IMPOSSIBLE TO BUY, AND THESE ARE GOING TO MAJORLY SHAKE UP THE THERMAL/NIGHT VISION MARKET. TECH IS GETTING BETTER AND BETTER. THESE PRICES ARE GOING TO BE MAJROLY COMPETITIVE, AND THE MARKET NICHE THAT THESE ARE GOING TO OCCUPY IS SOMETHING I DONT EVEN FEEL EXISTS YET. THESE ARE THE FUTURE OF SHOOTING, OF DEVELOPMENT, OF OTHER COMPANIES NEEDING TO GROW AND ADVANCE OR DIE.

There are SCS models coming for the P320, VP9, and PDP. Here are the stats.

      P320

The SCS-320-GR (Solar Charging Sight) is
designed for P320 optics ready handguns
and other DPP footprints. It is designed
to attach directly to the slide without an
adapter plate and uses our solar charging
      system with multi-directional light sensors
to automatically adjust brightness. The SCS
can potentially operate indefinitely using an
      internal, rechargeable 20,000-hour battery
meaning you will never need to change
batteries again. Included is an intensity
override function which locks the optic into a
high brightness mode for 30 minutes.

      20,000-Hour Power Reserve
      • Aspherical Glass Lens with Zero Distortion
      • Solar Charging Internal Battery
      • Multi-Sensor Auto Brightness
      • Brightness Intensity Override System
      • Multiple Reticle System™ (MRS): 32 MOA Circle &
2 MOA Dot; 2 MOA Dot; 32 MOA Circle
      • Direct Fit For Sig Sauer Optics-Ready P320 Handguns &
      DPP Footprint Applications

      • IPX8 Certified Waterproof
      • Nitrogen Purged Enclosed Housing
      • Travel Range ± 30 MOA
      • 1.5 MOA Windage & Elevation Adjustment Per Click
      • Window Size: 0.90 × 0.63 in
      • 7075 T6 Aluminum Housing

P320 comes nicely milled, and I think this will be mega popular. MOS milling on Glocks leave a lot to be desired, and I think that is why SCS MOS stuff didn’t sell like the hotcakes this thing is destined for. The 320 has so many users, uses, and is wildly modular. I can’t wait to get these to you guys and gals. At this time, only coming in green, and I would like to see a bigger dot option. 6 MOA sounds nice.

      SCS for the VP9

      The SCS-VP9-GR (Solar Charging Sight)
is designed for the H&K VP9 optics ready
handguns. It is designed to attach directly
to the slide without an adapter plate and
uses our solar charging system with multidirectional
      light sensors to automatically
adjust brightness. The SCS can potentially
      operate indefinitely using an internal,
      rechargeable 20,000-hour battery meaning
you will never need to change batteries again.
Included is an intensity override function
which locks the optic into a high brightness
      mode for 30 minutes.

      • 20,000-Hour Power Reserve
      • Solar Charging Internal Battery
      • Multi-Sensor Auto Brightness
      • Brightness Intensity Override System
      • Multiple Reticle System™ (MRS): 32 MOA Circle &
2 MOA Dot; 2 MOA Dot; 32 MOA Circle
      • Direct Fit For HK© VP9™ Optics-Ready Handguns

      • IP67 Certified Waterproof
      • Travel Range ± 30 MOA
      • 1 MOA Windage & Elevation Adjustment Per Click
      • Window Size: 0.77 × 0.58 in
      • 7075 T6 Aluminum Housing

Again, I think people have been looking for a VP9 option for a while. I have heard plenty of people wishing for this for some time, as we saw in on one of the optics-ready VP9s a bit ago. I want a 6 MOA dot option as well, and I’ll say that below for the PDP in a second. This is going to be another great release. I hope.

      SCS for the PDP

The SCS-PDP-GR (Solar Charging Sight) is
designed for Walther PDP 2.0 optics ready
handguns. It is designed to attach directly
to the slide without an adapter plate and
uses our solar charging system with multidirectional
      light sensors to automatically
adjust brightness. The SCS can potentially
      operate indefinitely using an internal,
      rechargeable 20,000-hour battery meaning
you will never need to change batteries again.
Included is an intensity override function
which locks the optic into a high brightness
      mode for 30 minutes.

      TECH & FEATURES
      • 20,000-Hour Power Reserve
      • Solar Charging Internal Battery
      • Multi-Sensor Auto Brightness
      • Brightness Intensity Override System
      • Multiple Reticle System™ (MRS): 32 MOA Circle &
2 MOA Dot; 2 MOA Dot; 32 MOA Circle
      • Direct Fit For Walther PDP 2.0 Optics-Ready Handguns

      SPECS
      • IP67 Certified Waterproof
      • Travel Range ± 30 MOA
      • 1 MOA Windage & Elevation Adjustment Per Click
      • Window Size: 0.77 × 0.58 in
      • 7075 T6 Aluminum Housing

I have a lot of people tell me how nice their PDP is like Walther is new to making guns or something. Everyone needs a PDP, I think. They feel so good in the hand, and can be so accurate. Depends who is staring down the sights, ay? PDP users will be lucky to get an SCS model too. It’s nice to have a company focusing on firearm-specific fits, something we can hardly complain about. Now of course, there are people like me who want really dynamic products, but no need to be switching optics around. They aren’t suppressors or flashlights. Leave them sitting. If they fit and do a great job, leave them be. All these new SCS are going to do a fantastic job and be popular I have a feeling.

The reason the SCS for the M&P wasn’t part of a big buying frenzy has me think that most M&P users (I didn’t say all) aren’t worried about modifying their gun or shooting with dots. Lots of M&P’s are nice, entry-level pistols, and people want to mod their fancier and more expensive packages. A metal frame doesn’t change the chassis, if you know what I mean…Makes sense to me. As users step -up to their P320s, PDP, VP9s, we’ll see more dot demand. Dots are the future of carry, and I’ve been saying that a long time. Who listens? Dots are of course already plenty popular in competitions, and that is what we have next.

507K Competition or How I Learned to Love the 507K’s Tall Sister

Going to come in red and green. Nice. Looks like an old-school tube TV don’t it? We’ll have RCA stickers available for you to place on top of your little TV’s soon. Anyway, this is a nice optic option for someone who doesn’t like the SRO or something. Bigger window and form factor will make acquistion simple, and getting your dot on target a breeze.

The 507Comp handgun sight features a
large 1.1” x 0.87” objective lens for enhanced
      shooting performance and Holosun’s new
      Competition Reticle System (CRS) available
with a red or green LED. CRS is an enhanced
      Multi-Reticle System with four components
      including a precision 2MOA dot, an 8MOA
circle, 20MOA circle, and 32MOA circle with
multiple combination settings to suit individual
      shooter’s preference.

Up to 50,000 Hour Battery Life
      • Shake Awake™ Technology with Last Setting Recall
      • Enlarged Window for Enhanced Field Of View
      • Competition Reticle System (CRS): 2 MOA Dot with
      8/20/32 MOA Circle
      • Parallax Free & Unlimited Eye Relief

      SPECS
      • Travel Range ± 30 MOA
      • Reticle Brightness: 6 Daylight & 2 Night Vision
      Compatible Settings
      • 1 MOA Windage & Elevation Adjustment Per Click
      • Window Size: 1.1 × 0.87 in
      • 7075 T6 Aluminum Housing

That enlarged window will help you tune into whatever episode of Spongebob, or AR500 steel, you want. A whopping (me dramatizing) 8 MOA dot will be easy to pick-up, and I anticipate hearing plenty of folk saying they want to use it on their carry gun. Some folks will grill them because they are the experts, we all know it, but it might be a way for Holosun to test the popularity of a bigger dot. Some folks with diminished physical capabilities might really like an 8 MOA dot, and if they prefer it as such, I not only prefer it, but I want them to have it. Of course, people will dislike that and think it’s wrong, but people still carry single-stack 1911s and walk around mumbling, “cocked and locked” for some reason. I expect the Competition Reticle System to make some more appearances in the future.

Forgive all typos. Let me know what you have to say. Again, I want to hear it.
